Day 73 - December 18th 2013 (By Elina Ayako)

Hello there blog reader!

Elina here to update you on what's been happening today at The Hip Drop studio!

First up was our regular Warm Up Program - blood, sweat & tears are paying off because there is a slight mark of a sixpack on my once oh-so wobbly tummy?

OH YEAH!
Afterwards we had 90 minutes to accomplish the assignment we got for Sara Gaardbo.
To the amusement of Mantas & Elin, it was involving Floor Barre.
It was actually only about Floor Barre.
Our task was to chose our favourite exercises we did with Sara & combine them to make a 30 minute program.
After some intensive thinking/exercising/writing time, we had a pretty decent product & Lin was happy about it!

In the lunch break we had one of our usual chats with Lin but this time, it considered a rather sad subject.

Lin is a member of PETA the animal organisation, and she talked about how most of the Angora we buy is a product of animal torture. The Angora rabbits are getting skinned while they are still alive, which makes them go through incredible pain.
If you want to help, please post this link to raise awareness: http://ekstrabladet.dk/kup/forbrug/article2176181.ece

We spent the whole afternoon with the lovely Sofia.

The first lesson we finished examining the "naked" 1YEPers whilst walking on the cat walk (sound way weirder than it actually was) to find out what body postures every single one of us has.
Then she gave us personal excercises to work on correcting our "bad" postures.
To finish off the day, we had a nice 30 minute yoga session with mostly stretching.. NO, NOT TRUE!! Sofia was in the mood to torture, so she decided to do 100 Sun-salutations followed by 100 other yoga & pilates killers.
But it felt awesome when we made it through her class.
It's for the best!
I know  :-/

Day 74 - December 19th 2013  (By Anton Swerkström)

Tja kära blogreaders!
This first semester at the Hip Drop Education is running towards its end. Its sad in one way but looking back at everything we have been through it feels like we have been here for a year already. So many classes, teachers and incredible moments that I wont soon forget!
This week we have kinda slowed down our pace a little after an intense couple of weeks (But we still do our 1 hour Warm Up/WorkOut program every morning!)
So today we had some extra stretching and then we sat down for evaluation of this first part of our journey.
We have actually had a lot of these talks lately, both during school and when we hang out after school as well so we have kinda went through it all. My favorite talk was when everyone got to tell their favorite moment of the semester. Everyones first reaction after hearing the question was almost panic since there is so much to chose from but to hear everyone tell what they liked the best and why was really cool  :-)
To finish of the day the awesome directors of the program, Lin and K, treated us to the movies. We went to see the second Hunger Games film. A good movie and I definitely recommend you to watch it, maybe make sure to watch the first one too though :-)
But the best part of this was just hanging out with the whole gang and have a good time.
Tonight we are all going to the Malmoe Shore house to spend our last evening together before people are heading home.
Looking forward to it! Not people going home but the spending time together part  :-)
I wont be going anywhere though, I will stay put and look after Mantas who is the only one who wont be going home. Hopefully we will do some danceprojects while waiting for next semester so stay tuned for that.
Thats it for me, I wish you guys a Merry Christmas and I will be back again in 2014!

Day 72 - Tuesday December 17th 2013 (By Mantas Rimeikis)

Hello Blog !

Last week before the Christmas Holiday will start.
We are all kind of relieved because we are done with all the shows ( both went really well & I still look back to those moments)

Today after the Warm Up Class and the class with K (he taught us some tutting / isolation techniques) we had another surprise, ha ha this month is full of cool surprises.

K & Lin invited us to their apartment to do the evaluation on the Christmas show and on Sara Gaardbo our Floor Barre & Modern teacher.
So we were sitting there drinking tea/coffee evaluating on the last 2-3 weeks. Each one of us had to tell our experience with Sara and stuff that we liked or disliked.

Other unexpected thing happened!
Lin & K brought up the final production and told us that they have the concept idea.
They were so excited to tell us about it, you could tell it easily by looking in their eyes.
We are doing....the.....ehm I dont know if I can actually tell you heeeh....BUT I can maybe add a picture, and MAYBE you can guess it  ;-)

The idea is so awesome and there is sooo many awesome characters and scenes to choose from! Everyone seemed to like this idea even though some of us dont know the whole story......so yes...this is something some of you out there probably already know  :-)

Oh and  . . . . .   . . . . . . . .    will be a part of our show!

I cant tell you the name either....BUT....WE KNOW.....and soon YOU will know  :-)

It’s crazy how humble and welcoming Lin and K are, we are like a big family with one goal working our asses off to get closer to it.

One more thing...
Lin took four of us to Copenhagen to take Misha Gabriel’s workshop tonight and yesterday (for free!)
December has been full a lot of nice treats and presents for us.

Bye bye

Day 71 - December 16th 2013 (By Cecilia Tram)

Hey there!

We had Misha today and it was so much fun but really, really hard.

It was alot of choreo and the musicality was hard so I had to  guess in some parts :-/
In the beginning it felt good, but closer to the end it was a struggle for me to keep up.
My mind knew what to do but my body didn't want to work with me because it was so tired.
For me it was a good practice, to learn to take in choreo fast even when I'm exhausted, and just have experience to work with a tired body.
It's like when you are telling a 5 years old kid to do something they don't want to do.
That's how my body feel like right now  :-/

Rest of the day was chilled and nice.

It was nice for my body.
We did of course some stretch too.

Misha´s having workshops in denmark this day and tomorrow.

I really want to take the workshop, but if I had a hard time with the class this morning, I dont think I am ready for the workshop, but I will watch it, and I'm really looking foward to it.
I have never been to a workshop before and at this level, yeah wow!
I'm so lucky and I feel so spoiled.

Love to you all!

Day 69 - December 12th 2013 (By Elin Karabuda)

Hi!
Ok so this day was a teeny tiny stressful.
In a good way though. We had 12 more 8-counts to learn before the show tomorrow. No panik. I know that simular stuff like this will happen in the life as a dancer so I'm glad we got to be pushed to do stuff like this.
In the evening we had a rehersal at Palladium (the place were we will perform tomorrow)
It was with costumes, lights and all that fancy stuff. At first Lin and K made sure we got the best lights possible for all different parts of the number. So we basically just had to stand in the proper formations and look pretty. Then my friends, then it was time to go trough our piece like there was no tomorrow. And that we did. I think I can speek for all of us when I say we were very very nervous. Not about the show tomorrow. But about what Lin and K would think. So it was such a releafe to hear them say that they were proud of us.
Now the pressure is gone and we're ready to hit the stage tomorrow!
Bye!

Day 68 - December 11th 2013  (By Kallum Khaos)

Hello world.

So I know we’ve all spoken about classes with Sara and Sofia a few times in the past so I thought today I’d take some pictures so you get to SEE what the day was like :-)

We started with Sara’s floor barre.

'

Anton trying his best to pretend his leg wasn’t burning :-)

This was followed by a quick break where we all ate clementines and had a few dance discussions – injuries, anatomy etc.

After, it was onto our technique class with Sara.

After came lunch break.
I read comic books, Marilena and Denice climbed on each other and Lin announced another teacher for Summerdrop   :-)

After lunch we had rehearsals for our upcoming performance at the Palladium on Friday…But that’s not before Lin had a little marketing plan for the show…

I didn’t take any pictures of the rehearsal because I had to be focused :-)
But you can see the footage/live performance for yourself.

This was followed by Anatomy and Physiology theory with Sofia where we used each other as live examples of different posture types and learned techniques and exercises to identify and correct any anatomical irregularities.

The last class of the day was Yoga with Sofia.

All in all, a good hard working day.

See you soon!

Day 67 - December 10th 2013 (By Denice M.Solberg)

Day 67 - December 10th 2013  (By Denice M.Solberg)

Hello everyone!
At school today Lin and K took it very easy on us, since a lot of us are starting to get small injuries and we are all tired  from the weekend.
So we did a tiny preparation for the show we are having at Palladium on Friday. After lunch we gathered in the couch to do a little evaluation about the Christmas show on Sunday.
Everybody got to say there opinions and then Lin gave feedbacks on all of our performances.
Both positive and constructive critisism. We all agreed on that Sunday was such a good day and that it felt really nice to finally perform together.
I love my classmates so much and standing backstage together before opening the show felt so good! We are a good team and everybody is taking so good care of each other. I am so proud of being a part of a group where everybody are so talented and yet sooo humble.

One of the most special moments for me on the Christmas show was to perform mine and Antons piece to ”O Helga natt” by the beautiful Swedish artist Carola. I have never performed a Contemporary partner piece with a guy before. It felt amazing. One of the best stage experiences I’ve had in a long time.
Another thing that I thought was so cool about it, was that all my hiphop classmates pulled of the contemporary dancing so well, so my vision for this choreography came to life!
I think there will be some footage up on youtube later.

I have a few pictures to share from the Christmas show.

Take Care !

Day 66 - December 9th 2013  (By Anton Swerkström)

Nämen Tjenare Blog!

Back to school again after a busy weekend.
Yesterday we had our Christmas Charity Show that we have been working on for several weeks now. And all the hard work payed off and yesterday night was freakin awesome. Such a good vibe and so much fun performing with my classmates and all the others from Skånes dance community.

Videos will be up on youtube right around Christmas, make sure to check that out!
Lin will make a post about it during Christmas, and add links.

The weekend took its toll though and the result was 8 tired YEPers today.
Luckily we had Sara Gaardbo back from Denmark today.
I say luckily because normally her classes pretty much kill you, but since she saw we were already half dead she adjusted the class after us. She has her own education in Denmark so she recognizes tired students when she sees them. That doesnt mean those three hours were easy though, she still pushed us hard.
Then we had lunch break. Two of us instantly collapsed and took a nap, soon me and Cecilia followed as well. It ended up with almost the entire 1YEP group passed out by the end of the break. Our wonderful dancemom Lin noticed we needed a little rest and decided to extend out break by half an hour <3
Best half hour ever!
To finish of the day happy Sofia was back to teach us some Anatomy and then we ended the day with a Yoga session. Perfect for the way everyone was feeling. During the last 10 minutes we did relaxation, just lying down while Sofia was talking.
“Now just relax and try to empty your thoughts, but that doesnt mean you can fall asleep. Because thats not meditation, thats sleeping!” This quote made us laugh for like half the relaxation period. Maybe doesnt sound that funny but since we were all so tired and with Sofias awesome accent we just broke down. Haha, I love this group :-)
Hopefully we will recover soon since we have another show on Friday.

Thats it for me, now I need sleep, many hours of sleep... Gonatt!

Day 65 - December 6th 2013 (By Elina Ayako)

Eyooo Blog readers, what's crack-a-lackin?
I bet you're all starting to get into a christmasy mood because we for sure are!
Since yesterday K, Kallum & me went to the store to pick up some props for the show's decoration, our studio has turned into a Winter Wonderland! Well, kind of..

Anyway, today is the last preparation day at school before the big show on Sunday which means that today's the last chance to get your stuff fixed! You could definitely tell that everyone was working hard & everyone is doing their final touches on their solos.
To fit the atmosphere, we dimmed the lights for the hour we got to work on our solo performance so it was a really productive time we had for ourselves
(although we kinda looked like maniacs with our headphones on, dancing in a random direction in a completely silent room).

Right afterwards, we went through one of Lin's pieces for the show to the song "Afraid" by Amel.
The Formations were done quite fast & after rehearsing for 30 minutes we looked pretty good together & I could really feel the energy of everyone in the room!

In the afternoon it was time for Mister Michel who luckily made it to our studio, despite the out of control, Malmö demolishing, tree-tearing, ball-freezing storm "Xaver" that broke loose yesterday (alright, maybe I'm exaggerating a bit, but still, it's a crazy powerful storm!)
So like every other class we've had with Michel, it felt more like a 90 minute kick ass work-out than a dance class but like always, it was so much fun!
He taught a choreography to one of my favorite songs from Azealia Banks so I gave 200% throughout the whole class.
Let me tell you, our sweat soaked clothes were a clear evidence that all of us deserved the weekend!

Day 64 - December 5th 2013  (By Mantas Rimikis)

Hello Blog!

About two months ago our Musical Jazz teacher Martin was here, and he gave us an assignment which was to create a performance which had these followimg elements included in the piece:
Bob Fosse jazz, Michael Jackson and current Hip Hop. And it had to show the connection between all three dance styles ( since MJ was super inspired by Bob Fosse and a lot of dancers were/is inspired by MJ)

The reason I am telling you this is because today was the day we had to perform it.
As you may or may not know we were divided in 2 groups (guys & girls).
The guys did a great job end of story.
Actually we were pretty worried about the Bob Fosse Jazz part, because when we researched it on youtube the first thing we saw was  ‘’Snake in the grass’’
Check it out and you will understand what I mean haha

Bob Fosse - Snake In The Grass

But we kept looking until we discovered the ‘’Alley Dance’’ which was awesome!

Regarding the Michael part we were mostly inspired by ‘’Smooth Criminal’’ so we combined both of those things and added some ‘’current choreography’’ to it.

                                                     Smooth Criminal - Michael Jackson

Everything went pretty well and it was super easy to work together.
Anton and Kallum looked pretty cool in the outfits (hats, shirts and vests) not me though, somehow I looked like a cowboy, maybe because my shirt was navy and west was brown + I had a weird hat.

Girls did a good job too! They approached the assignment in a very girly way, which was nice and powerful.
The sad thing is that we did not took any pictures on that day , so you can’t see the outfits we had :-/
Girls had funny black sumo hair things on their heads  :-)

Day 63 - December 4th 2013 (By Cecilia Tram)

Hey everybody!

It's hard everytime time for me to write something.

I never know what to write.
Everybody are working hard for the show and I'm super excited.
And I will be the one who takes care of the baking.
Woho! I love baking!
I would really liked to bake a big cake and a big pie but I rather have diffrent small cockies and muffins than just 2 of something. I

need to think of the time and that I don't have a fridge.

Vanillacupcake, Brownies, Brownies with topping, Moussė , Minipies, Chocolate Chip Cookies.

I want to do everything!
I definitely would have taking a education with that if I weren't dancing  :-)

I really don't know what to write.

We are going to dance to "Last Christmas" with Wham which I love, and maybe the only one who does ha ha.
The song bring out alot of good memories for me.
Eh my body are really tired.
Almost fainted yesterday but just almost, and I'm really happy and proud of myself for making it thorugh :-)

Denices piece is one I am really looking foward to perform Sunday.

The funny thing is that I have been dancing Lyrical styles for three years but I have never really perfomed with a Lyrical piece.
Not the way that Denice want me to.
There are certain parts in the choreography that shows that I can dance this kind of style.
I don't know how to explain what I mean but I have always been in the back, and when I was fortunate to really dance it was like nothing special.
So thank you Denice!
Thank you with all my heart!

Hm..I think that was it for me.

Love to you all :*
