Day 35 - October 18th 2013 - (By Denice M.Solberg)

Day 35 - October 18th 2013 - (By Denice M.Solberg)

So I’m gonna try and wrap up this first week with Miss Andye J, in todays blog entry.
That is a woman that really knows what she is doing.
She has been manipulating our dancing skills and knowledge all week trying to make us understand what musicality and dynamics are really about.
It has been the most frustrating week so far, but this being the last day of the week I can honestly say that all the frustration and hard work is starting to pay off.
Little by little of course, but for some of us the light bulbs are starting to blink.
Andye told us in the Q&A yesterday that she likes to imagine her students with switched off light bulbs over their heads when she steps into class, and her goal is to make the light bulbs light during class.

We started off the day with repeating all the choreos we have learned so far.
She did her test rounds and made us answer what, where, how and when the moves were put to the music, we almost passed all the tests.
I honestly got stuck not knowing the answer sometimes tho..
I’ve now learned that it is a very good thing to know the musicality by heart, cause it will make it easier to work deeper with dynamics.
So yeah, lesson learned.

We learned a new choreo today that had a lot of focus on both things we have been going through this week, musicality and dynamics.
I wanna say that Mantas got picked out to do a solo and he killed it.
I was so proud I literally jumped up while watching him dance.
His light bulb was so bright, haha.
I am so happy Andye gave him his time to shine, he really deserved it!

Tonight we had a dinner party at our place “Malmö Shore” !
It was very nice and everybody was there.
I hope we can do more stuff like this in the future too.
I think it is very healthy for the group spirit to do something nice together outside of school too.

We have one more week with Andye before we have our first break.
I am going back to Norway and I can’t wait to see my family and friends again!
But first we are gonna get are butts whopped by the queen Miss Andye J, and I can’t wait!
Space, performance and solo is on the list for the week!

So, we have some nice goodies for you tonight!!

Feel free to share to everyone who would like to see some amazing students in action.

As those of you who follow the blog know the program had the privilege of having Mr.David Moore teaching as the first US teacher.
This amongst others ended with an AMAZING David Moore TV video that was choreographed, filmed, directed and edited by Master Moore.

The thing is that after the end of every dance teachers stay the 1YEP´ers get an assignment.
And after David Moore´s stay their assignment was to create a "THANK YOU" video to David Moore.
It had to include certain David Moore moves, or his style, and also include different internal situations.

The students had 1 week to choreograph everything, to film it, to edit it...EVERYTHING.
And this was 3 weeks into their education program.
We were supposed to post this video right away, but we had some problems with the files...anyhow better late than never right  :-)

World.....here is the result.

Click on the link or copy paste  :-)

And to David Moore:

THANK YOU DAVID!
We are all super grateful for everything.
And we cant wait to see you in L.A.
We hope you can see some of the hidden D.Moore things here and there  :-)

Check out the video, check out the blog for stories about the students journey, news, updates, competition and much more. Share, like, comment  :-)

Day 34 - October 17th 2013 (By Anton Swerkström)

Day 34 - October 17th 2013 (By Anton Swerkström)

Hey!

Here is my blog entry for today :-)

Alrighty, day 4 of this amazing week and its my turn to tell you guys whats going on in the 1YEP.
We started of the day with some music theory class with Karsten.
I dare to say we are getting better at this and its really nice to have these classes once in a while to practice your ears.
Since I see musicality as one of the most important aspects of being a dancer
...So does Andye J I think...  :-)
I always try to focus a lot when we do this.

Then back to Andye and our second day working on dynamics.
We continued with the choreos from the day before, still with Andye on our backs the entire time.
I think Elina described it in a good way how Andye sees what we have to work on right away and she is not afraid to point it out.
But I can already tell it having effect though.
Feels like people are evolving like crazy around me which just pushes me to keep up.
Its like we were told in the beginning of this week
“I have to break you down so you can build yourself up and stronger/better then you were before”
(not her exact words but something like that)
I still have to emphasize how kind and genuine this woman is though.
She inspires me so much and makes me want to be a better dancer as well as a better person, and she is giving us the tools for both :-).

Today we also had our Q&A.
Which was AMAZING, I could just sit and hear Andye talk forever.
Every Q&A we have had has been pretty intimate (if you are thinking something dirty here you are a sick person, doesnt matter if I made you think it by writing this he he) with all of us sitting in the couch and the bean bags drinking tea and really getting to know the teachers.
But this was on another level, like I said Andye is very kind and genuine but she is also honest, funny and very intelligent.
I´m not gonna tell you exactly what she said because you kinda had to be there, but to sum up we had many laughs and were given a lot of advice and tips about dancing, teaching and life in general.
I wont soon forget this :-)

Thats it for this time guys, now I have to practice the choreos we been doing this week because you never know if/when Andye is gonna say
“Ok Anton, the Brandy song, you alone, Go!”

Cya! :-)

Day 33 - October 16th 2013 (By Elina Ayako)

Day 33 - October 16th 2013 (By Elina Ayako)

Maaan guys, you're missing out. Andye is AMAZING.

Today we started a new "chapter" of her own little education program she put together for us, which was working on our dynamics. Andye is the queen of dynamics so I couldn't wait to learn from her!

For the first choreography she taught, Andye used the words "conversational" & "confident" to describe the piece.
Now the piece itself was already quite challenging. But since we had to focus on the dynamics, the whole thing became even a bigger struggle for me.
After practicing for maybe 30 minutes, there was that one time we went over the routine & I was almost about to pat myself on the shoulder because it felt like I did a good job on executing the dynamics this time.
Instead, Andye tapped me on the shoulder to tell me I need to work on my dynamics.
Well, looks like you were wrong Elina haha!
By the end of the class she made us do solos in front of everyone & I have to confess, I almost peed my pants. Almost!
It was so nerve-wracking! But all of us did our best, and it actually turned out quite well.

The second choreography was a "sekuuusyy" one, how Noppo would say it.
Still focusing on the dynamics, we got to execute it in a different way by dancing to a slower song & in a more sensual way.
This class felt sooo good.....the song, the mood, the choreography..
It was just perfect!
Don't get me wrong though, Miss Andye J is always strict with us & really kicks our butts - in a good way of course!
The way she teaches can be really frustrating because it almost feels like she sees right through you.
I kinda feel naked in front of her because she recognizes all my flaws & doesn't hold back on pointing them out to me.
But she does it in such a caring, supporting & loving way that it really makes me appreciate having her with us at the Education Program!

I'm sure that the next seven days will be just as good as the last three & I can't wait to get up tomorrow morning!

Have a lovely week everyone!

P.S. Mantas, Mr.Smooth! Your class tonight was Strawberry Amazing (hhahaha I'm so funny).. No seriously, it was so nice! And we'll definitely feel our abs tomorrow.

Elina Ayako xx

Day 32 - October 15th 2013 (By Mantas Rimeikis)

Day 32 -  October 15th 2013 (By Mantas Rimeikis)

Sup Blog?

Ah sooo many things happened since I last wrote here I don’t even know where to begin.
Shit Kingz week was beyond everything, but I guess you already know.
Noppo is my Idol and being able to learn from him for a week was a huge thing for me.
Repetition and self discipline is key!

And this week Miss Andye J started educating us!
She want to teach us four different aspects of dance.
Musicality, Dynamics, Space, Expression. We started out with musicality. She is an awesome teacher and choreographer.
It has only been two days, and she is already challenging us in so many ways.
Andye played a sick beat, and we broke it down together, and then we got to express each sound with our bodies f.e. me and Elina did the synthesizer sound, then we switched.  Me & Elina just came up with the stupidest ways to express each sound  :-)  We were creative though so that’s cool.
Later we continued on both choreographies that we’ve learned yesterday and really tried to focus on musicality first.

The hardest thing was not to rush & stay ‘’in the pocket’’. That’s one of the things I really want to learn.

Andye already gave us an assignment: We have to prepare a 1 minute solo performance that fits the word that we wrote on our note the first day (mine was smooth)
I like this type of homework :-)

Other than that there is nothing new new. My body is sore as hell , but that’s a good thing, I guess it means that we work hard. No play hard yet. Just work hard.

Since others are posting pictures I thought I will share one too

.....yup it is a potato

Day 31 - October 14th 2013 (By Cecilia Tram)

Hey World!

Cecilia here!
I'm still high on S**t Kingz.
It was the best week of my life and I wish I could turn the time back.
There is no words that can discribe how amazing and talented they are and the have become my absolutely top role models.
I love them! Shoji is my favorite. Shhhhh....don't tell ;-)

Then Andye J arrived!!!
Woooohoo!
She's so amazing. Omg. She has such energi and I'm looking foward to work with her this 2 weeks.

Today we started to work with musicality and it was really hard.
It is a new way for me to listen to music but it looks so good when you get it.
One thing I absolutely longing for it's to work with high heels.
I love to dance girly girly style and I want to be able to feel confident with heels and it's a really good reason to buy new shoes ;-) though I never really use high heels.

    MISS ANDYE JAMIESON

One thing I have noticed just by the first day, is that we are going to have a lot of challenges, and it's good but it's very hard for me mentally, and at the last day with Andye we are going to perform a solo. God heaven!
What is it with everyone and solos?!

That's all from me.
Love and kisses to your all.

Day 30 - October 11th 2013 (By Marilena Maouni)

Day 30 - October 11th 2013 (By Marilena Maouni)

LAST DAY WITH S**T KINGS…. I HAVE BEEN CRYING MY HEART OUT SINCE YESTERDAY CAUSE I DON´T WANT THIS TO END!!!
If you´re not close to a 1YEP´er or Lin and K or the Hip Drop you are probably thinking “come on, it can´t be THAT amazing!”.
You are probably thinking that we are exaggerating, but TRUST ME it´s the opposite!
I seriously don´t have the words to describe the last 5 days.
I don´t know how to make you realize the greatness of these people with just words!!!

They train so hard, they have an out-of-this-world body control, they are the best dancers in the world, but what makes them so special is that they are so kind , humble, and happy people! They just want to dance and entertain! THEIR HEART IS PURE , THEIR DANCING IS PURE ,THEY ARE AMAZING ROLE MODELS.
They (for sure!) gave us all the tools they could have possibly given us in one week dancing wise, but the inspiration was BEYOND! They touched my heart, they shook me to my very core, I´m a different person now. It was with no doubt the best days of my life and although I´m so grateful I can´t help but being so sad that this is the end.
On Wednesday we did “That Girl” by Justin Timberlake when they taught their first Choreography class of the day, and for the second Choreography Class they divided us into two groups of four, and we did formations and each of us got to be a S**t King! (I was Kazuki <3)
THAT WAS THE BEST PART OF THE WHOLE EDUCATION BY THE WAY!! And they gave us an assignment that we had to have ready for today: We were gonna perform the Choreography “That Girl” for them, as S**t Kingz with formations and everything PLUS we had to do our own formations to another choreography we did the first day they taught us.
So today we did one last choreography class, one last basics class, and then …WE had to perform for S**t Kings!!!!
The vibe and the energy in the room was unbelievable , so many feelings and thoughts in seconds…pressure to do my best cause… you know… freaking S**t Kings are watching!!! I was being proud of my super talented classmates, being grateful, happy, sad, motivated. Gaaaaaah!!!!! I can´t express it with words it´s sounds so cheezy and boring JUST APPLY FOR NEXT YEAR MAN!!
Oh …but that wasn´t the end though…! S**T KINGS PERFORMED FOR US as well, and it was so F*****G UNBELIEVABLE that everybody started to cry (especially Mantas)
AND then we got PERSONAL FEEDBACK from S**t Kings. DO YOU PEOPLE GET IT ?
PERSONAL FEEDBACK !!!!!
They were checking us out the whole week, they discussed about us, they knew our names from day ONE!!! I´M GONNA LOSE MY MIND WITH THIS EDUCATION!!!!
They truly rocked our world and as a thank you we made a thank you card and Elina made a super tasty cake but it looked like shit (that was the plan though ha ha ha!)
Thank you shit kings ,thank you Lin and K for giving me the best days of my life

Day 29 – October 10th 2013 (Elin Karabuda)

Day 29  –  October 10th 2013 (Elin Karabuda)

:-) Hello humans! Missed me? Yup. Good.
This week... Oh my crap! So far it has been the best week of my life. To be trained all day by my biggest idols and inspirations is unreal!
Do you understand how that feels!?
If you thought yes, then you are wrong.

S**t Kingz are the most talented, amazing, sweet, cool, mindblowing and humble people I’ve ever met! No teacher can compare with these 4 japanese miracles!
I’ve taken their classes almost everytime Lin has brought them.
Still they continue to shock me!

In our first class today we learned some of this!! :

S**T KINGZ PERFORMANCE AT
THE HIP DROP 2012

I know, Wooooaaw!.. It was nice to learn an emotional choreo from them. After they taught the steps they helped us to perform it in different ways and show different emotions. I will take this with me and try to do the same with other choreos, to grow as a performer.

On the technique/basic class we did isolations, grooves and a lot of footwork.
These are all stuff that I haven’t worked on so much, so it was really good for me to get all this info. And to get that info from my heroes really motivates me to practice it.
They told us that their regular workout program consists of all these things.
Soooo if we will do this everyday and we’ll be fine!
On their second class they taught a super difficult choreo that had alot of the footwork that we also worked on in technique class.
It was really hard for me!
But in the end of the class it felt a lot better  and it actually worked! :-O
Must be because of their fantabulous teaching skill.
I LOVE THEM!
Good night.

Day 28 - October 9th 2013 (By Kallum Khaos)

Day 28 - October 9th 2013 (By Kallum Khaos)

Yesterday my Facebook status read:

“These are the best days of my life.
I can't even begin to explain how amazing this education is.
I've taken class with S**t Kingz before, but nothing on this level.
8 students, 4 teachers, 4 hours a day.
I'm in heaven!! :-)

...and it's so true.
Nothing I could say could put into perspective just how privileged I am to be on this course or how amazing every day is.
Even in the first hour of the day when we were doing our stretches, warm ups, crunches, hip hop foundations and modern dance performance rehearsal I took a moment to reflect on how surreal, intense and freakin' awesome this still is.

The girls getting ready to meet S**t Kingz ha ha ha

So for the first class they taught “JT – That girl” and I think we'd all agree it was a tough routine, but the vibe and mood made it feel so right with our bodies, Moto (Oguri) told us to imagine we were at a bar drinking, and then we break into dance while kinda tipsy....Something some members of the group can really relate to quite easily..
*COUGH*Elina!*COUGH* - Kidding :-)

We also had the question and answer session today.
Woooooow!!
We asked all kinds of crazy cool questions and the S**t Kingz had the answers to the various questions...you really had to be there...it was pretty special.
Though I will share one thing that Shoji told us had inspired him and that was something said by Link from Elite Force crew - When asked by students how they can improve he told them 'by messing up', by messing up you can learn your limitations and each time you do you can identify what it is you need to work on and where you can improve.
We all focus hard on not messing up, but maybe if we focus on dance and let ourselves mess up naturally, we can better notice where our weaknesses are, and make active steps to make them stronger.

In the second class we split into groups of 4 and learned the formations for the piece they taught earlier in the day.
It's so inspiring to see how the smallest movement can be so powerful when done in unison.
Everyone got so hyped watching the other group and it felt so great to perform it for each other, Lin & K and the S**t Kingz.
The students ended with a big group hug, it was a very proud moment for all of us :-)

Until next time.

Love dance, love life, love Mantas...

P.S. Elin taught the international class this evening and it was awesome!
She's so freakin' talented it's insane.
If I end this education even half as good as she is I'll be happy!! If you're in Malmo next Wednesday, you should come take class. I think it's Denice teaching   :-)

Day 27, October 8th 2013 (By Denice M Solberg)

Day 27, October 8th 2013 (By Denice M Solberg)

So today I wanted to do something else.
I feel like this experience can’t really be described with words, so I tryed to capture a few moments from today on my phone.
The others will most likely describe how AMAZING it is to have Shit Kingz here for a week, so I’m just gonna stick to this:
They are mind blowing, amazing, humble, inspiring, crazy, cute, funny dancers and people!
I learn so much and they help us so much as individuals and as a group!
They are even preparing us for the life after this education.
Back to the video.
I just wanna explain what we did today, so that it doesn’t seem like totally random footage.
It started with a warm-up with Lin, then the Kingz arrived, and they taught us a very fun choreo.
They challenged us a lo,t and it was very hard, but so much fun!
I have a feeling they are doing everything they wish they had time to do in their normal classes, and workshops, so we feel very lucky and fortunate to be trained by them.
Later Elina and I went with Lin to AL-DANS in Copenhagen to take Lin´s classes, and later Shit Kingz’s workshop! It was so much fun!
I loved the choreos!
Both Lin's and Shit Kingz's.
So yeah, now you can watch the video :-)
ENJOY!
(no professional editing, so please don’t judge me haha)

Til next time- dance!

Day October 7th 2013 (By Anton Swerkström)

Day October 7th  2013 (By Anton Swerkström)

Its finally Monday!

Holy F**king S**t Kingz Day!
You could tell right away when we first came to school something was happening today.
We were like little kids on Christmas Eve just waiting to receive our presents.
But first we had some running and physical training to do.
We have never ran so fast ever, it was like if we finished the run faster we would start our class earlier. Which made no sense because the time for them to arrive was already set and wouldn't change even if we flew around the park in under a minute.
Still that didn't keep us from sneak peaking at the door throughout the entire workout program. And then we hear a door opening
:-)

Haha, we were so awkward at first, had no idea what to do and we pretty much just stood there and stared at them.
But if you know S**t Kingz its impossible to feel uncomfortable around them so that quickly changed.

What an amazing day!
Started with choreo class before lunch.
Everyone just had the biggest smiles on their faces all the time.
I think Lins was the biggest of all :-)

We danced to the song “Bobby Brown/Every little step” and were so hyped afterwards we barely even wanted to have lunch, just go straight into next class.

Then we had basics class.
We did A LOT of isolations and basic grooves.
They said themselves that they were really happy to have these classes because they really feel its important to break it down to the very basics of your movement, and by perfecting this become a better dancer.
It was pretty damn hard, especially when you see them doing it freakin perfectly right in front of you.
But inspiring as well though, have to practice this more!

Last class we did choreo again.
This time,  one of their newer pieces (I think) to the song “Justin Timberlake/Floatin”.
For those of you who have taken their class you know the energy they bring into class.
Its unreal.
We all had so much fun and like Marilena said, and I totally agree, you dont even care if you mess up because you are just so happy to dance.
You dont even feel that you are tired even though you go 110% all the time.
Omg S**t Kingz is like a drug!
Without side effects :-)

To sum up it was an amazing day and I cant express how glad I am that we have four more days with these guys :-)

Cant wait for tomorrow!!!

WORKSHOP EVENT IN COPENHAGEN/DENMARK October 6th 2013 (By Anton Swerkström)

WORKSHOP EVENT IN COPENHAGEN/DENMARK
October 6th 2013 (By Anton Swerkström)

And then the weekend was over...
We end every Friday with saying, “alright, now we have a couple days off, lets get some rest”.
Then you blink once and its Sunday night.
It´s totally fine by me though.
In the past Sunday night was always the most depressing time of the entire week, because you knew that very soon starts a new week of studying in school or your boring 8 hours a day work week.

But not for me! :-)
I´ll gladly go to bed on Sunday night with a big smile on my face because we have our schedule for the coming week and it always looks freakin awesome.
This week especially, but we will get back to that later  ;-)

Back to today!
We were going to Copenhagen to attend a workshop there organized by Camilla Malmberg who we know from kicking our butts (and abs) in the education.
She had the first hour and a half with strength, flexibility and technical exersices.
Which actually wasn't to bad, our bodies are getting stronger and I guess we also picked up a little from our 2 weeks of jazz training.

The second class was with Simon Glæsel.
Fun class with a fun teacher, lots of energy and it made me bring out my feminine side
(dont know if that was a pretty sight...)
My female classmates killed it though and Marilena and Elina even got selected as 2 of the “Fab 5”, the top 5 dancers of the workshop and was rewarded with goodiebags.

Really cool to see something new and meet new people though.
I really liked how the workshop was set up and Im looking forward to the next one in December.

Workshop in Copenhagen with
Camilla Malmberg & Simon Glæsel.
Elina & Marilena won the Goodiebag price,
and a to be a part of the
"Fab 5"

In the car on the way home we spoke about the education, what we have done, what is yet to come and Lin also teased us by saying she has some pretty sick surprises in store for us in the future.

Now I need to recharge, because tomorrow... Yeah you know whats going down tomorrow, 4 AMAZING dancers/teachers/idols are coming to The Hip Drop.

Im soooooo excited, have no idea how Im gonna fall asleep.

Whatever, I dont even care, because tomorrow we are all having class with S**t Kingz!!!!!

Day 25 - October 4th (By Elina Ayako)

Day 25 - October 4th (By Elina Ayako)

Today was the last day with Miss Jenny and even though my body was at it's limit, my mind kept on going, and I eventually found enough motivation to make me get through the day alive.
But Jenny take good care of us, the first hour of the day was some intense stretching to get our body back on track and prevent any injuries.

We did our regular program for the remaining hour before break which consisted of floor work, pirouettes and tendus.
And believe me, you would have laughed your butts off watching me do pirouettes a week ago.
But now, after some intense training, I can actually feel and see an improvement...kinda....a little bit.

Lunch Break.
Anton (or well, Anton's lovely mom) made us fat again: She didn't forget about the international "Cinnamon Roll Day" (HAPPY CINNAMON ROLL DAY EVERYBODY!) and to celebrate it how it should be celebrated, she baked us two bags filled with sugary deliciousness. Goodbye diet.

Then came the part of the day we were all waiting for: Personal evaluation with Jenny.
Knowing you've been working hard for the past two weeks is one thing - but actually hear, how the teacher saw you grow, and be brave enough to get out of your comfort zone just feels so good.
Now we all know what we have to work on until the next time the two come back!

To finish off the day, Jenny put together a small show with her "What Now" choreography as well as our personal duets. After rehearsing the whole afternoon and dancing a performance for 5 minutes straight over and over again, we really deserved our weekend!

Modern and Jazz was amazing. This weekend we'll relax a little, maybe go out, dance and you know.. "all that Jazz", and then it's time for S**T KINGZ.. AICARAAAAMBA!!
