Day 61 - December 2nd 2013 (By Elin Karabuda)
Day 61 - December 2nd 2013 (By Elin Karabuda)
Blog from
another frog!
We got a
big day coming up on Sunday.
The X-Mas show :-)
So this week we will basically be
focusing on that.
Today we had two classes with Linski.
On the first one she
told us that we would work on another choreo that we also will perform.
Her
piece to ”Afraid” By Amel Larrieux :-)
JIPPIYAY!
It’s my favourite choreo of hers’, so I´m happy.
On the other class we repeated the other choreos we have with her.
It’s going
to be awesome.
I’m super excited.
In the end
of the day we got some time to work on our solos.
It was well needed.
My choreo
will be a bit different from my earlier ones.
I’m trying to take a small step out
of my comfort zone and focus on adding the stuff I normally wouldn’t do.
Mainly
these two things: Travel and using more groves.
It has been difficult to
choreograph but I almost have the choreo done now.
After trying out the choreo
I realised one thing though.
I only travel to the right and forward.
So in the beginning
of my number you will probably see me in the back corner… :-)
So that’s
all I have to share with you today!
Goodnight!
Or goodmorning, depending on your timezone.
OR happy brunch if you’re in
England.

Day 60 - November 29th 2013 (By Kallum Khaos)
Day 60 - November 29th 2013 (By Kallum Khaos)
I'm writing this from the 1YEP internationals house where most of the students along with my girlfriend are watching “A Goofy Movie” which inspired Antons piece that he is about to perform in our Christmas show next week :-) Much needed down time with friends.
So today began with Sara and her floor barre.
As you probably heard in the previous blogs it involves becoming really aware of our bodies by performing various exercises while laying on the floor that replicate traditional barre exercises.
I'm probably the most inflexible person on the program so this for me is like a much needed slice of hell, it's tough, it hurts, but it improves my posture, makes me more flexible and opens up my body.
This is followed by modern, which involves hearing repeatedly phrases like 'open up your hips' 'extend your sitting bones' and a plethora of French words that I hadn't heard before.
We're really thrown into the deep end, but we have just a few classes with Sara so she really wants to get the most out of us while she can.
We're all gasping for air and running for water every 15 minutes but it's awesome!
The dynamics and grooves in his routines are really good for us to work on our performance and dancing as big as we can.
It's just a few months into the course but I can really see a progression in myself and everyone else on the course.

Short snippet of the class with Michel.
Even though it's the weekend now there's no rest for the Yeppers, some of us will be going to the studio tomorrow to rehearse or work on assignments then on Sunday we're heading to take workshops in Copenhagen.
See you next time

Day 59 - November 28th 2013 (By Denice M.Solberg)
Hello blog!!
This week is intense, but today we luckily had a little bit more of a relaxed day.
You know there´s going to be a charity X-Mas Show next Sunday? ....so we are all working on our solo’s for the show. I’m working on something a little bit different than the others. I’m trying to pick up my old contemporary/jazz/ballet tecnique to dance a little Christmas piece. Trying to involve everybody of the 1YEP’ers in this piece. It is very challenging, but I like the challenge. Anton is helping me a lot and it’s wonderful to work with him! Great partner and his work ethic inspires me and pushes me.
So this week has been pretty intense so far, we are getting pushed a lot by Sara Gaardbo in Floorbarre and Contemporary, and by Michel Patric Sian in Hip Hop Choreography. It’s been a while since I felt like I really had to fight with stamina.....Michel is really kicks our stamina. It is very fun though, and he is a great choreographer. It’s really nice to have something fresh in the education. Like some classes that are just for fun, and not always to work super hard on everything we can’t do. Michel’s classes were more for us to test what we already learned. Sara’s classes on the other hand are new to us, and so hard. I thought I knew my body pretty well, but having her at the education makes me realize how much knowledge I am lacking. Knowledge about your body can make you last as dancer for a good while, so I’m definitely taking her classes seriously.
I am still excited about life, the education is still amazing, Lin and K are still nice to us, we are still all friends, sooo… good night!! :-)

Day 57 - November 26th 2013 (By Elina Ayako)
Ohhh sweet jesus, it feels so darn good to be back on the dance floor!
Yes, I was even enjoying getting back to doing the 1 hour warm up routine because believe it or not, whilst my 10 days stay in Japan I did my crunches every day (okay maybe every other day, okay maybe once)
Anyway, I am really glad to be active again. And since the big christmas show is just around the corner, there's plenty of things to work on! Next to the christmas show on the 8th, we have to present our musical jazz assignment this monday so we really made the most out of our 1h rehearsal time today. Whilst I was gone the girls basically put together the whole show. During the last month we didn't even choreograph one step & as soon as Elina is gone for a week a two minute show has been created. Mh strange.. Very strange.. DUN DUN DUN!! But actually reeeeally good because what the girls put together is awesome & I can't wait to perform on Monday!!
After the lunch break it was time for a Q&A we've all been waiting for: Ladies & gentlemen, Lin Samuelsen. We got to know everything about her dreams as a girl (quote "I just wanted to be famous"), the curious & very successful techno band singer/dancer career (we still want to see video footage!), to creating one of the most known dance schools in the world, the Hip Drop. Listening to the unordinary, very interesting & inspiring life story of Lin, it's no wonder that we lost track of time & the one hour Q&A ended up being close to two hours long.. Oops!
We skipped the warm up & jumped right into K's class to work on a piece for the show on the 8th. This piece is a really hyped one & even though it's exhausting, it's so much fun to dance it as a group. We need some filing here & there but I have a really good feeling about this routine. Oh you want to know more about it? Come to see the show on the 8th.. And if this date is not available for you, we'll be having another performance on the 13th of december. So - NO EXCUSES MISTER!!

DANCING FOR THE PHILIPPINES - CHARITY EVENT - November 23rd 2013
DANCING FOR THE PHILIPPINES - CHARITY EVENT - November 23rd 2013
About a week and a half ago Lin sat all of us YEPers down and wanted to talk to us.
She talked to us about what was happening in the Philippines and how much it had effected her.
It really hit her hard, and she asked us if we were willing to help her do something to raise money for the people over there who suffer so much more than many of us can even imagine.
That´s how we decided to organize a Dance Workshop Day with lots of classes with lots of different teachers and styles, and with all the money going towards the victims of the Typhoon in the Philippines.
In little over a week we managed to put something amazing together.
We reached out to other schools in and around Malmö, and received a great response from them.
People volunteered to teach and we ended up with 11 teachers and 12 unique dance classes.
We had a lot of help from Malmö Dans Akademi who also offered that we could use their studio since they have two rooms.
So Saturday the 23rd of November dancers from all over southern Sweden came together for the first time to raise money for a higher cause.
From 12:00-18:00 we had around 200 students attending classes and contributing with donations.
Not only did we raise a lot of money for people in great need but we also did it while doing something that we love and at the same time uniting people from different schools and with different backgrounds.
Me who is from here and have been a part of this dance community for a while now can say that this really was a big deal.
We raised around 18 000 kr this day but the donations arent over yet.
We have another charity event coming up December 8th of December where we will again raise money for the same cause.
And you are also able t constantly raise money through this UNICEF link:
UNICEF - RAISING MONEY FOR THE PHILIPPINES
Skånes dance community is uniting and working together to help people less fortunate than ourselves.
I cant express how happy I am to have been a part of this amazing event, and how thankful I am to everyone willing to help out and make this possible.
And a big thank you to Bella Malekian who helped us organize this and also provided us with her studio.
And then of course our dance mom Lin with her beautiful heart who was the founder of this whole project.
Without her this never would have happened!

Vad händer och fötter blog!?
(Swedish phrase of the day, if you arent from Sweden that wont make any sense even with goodle translate, oh well sorry guys :-)
Second day with Sara today and I´m really happy she is teaching us in this education.
You can really tell she is used to teaching and especially teaching an education since she has her own in Denmark.
You can check out her education here:
Just the way she right away learned everyone's names and constantly giving us personal feedback is awesome.
First we had floor barre which I guess went a little better than Monday, but we still have a lot to learn.
Dont know how many times we heard the words “sit bones” but it was a lot.
And every time it was because we didnt use them correctly...
If you dont know floor barre I think you should look it up, and then I can guarantee its harder than it seems.
We were all walking kinda funny afterwards but I guess thats what it does to you, in a good way though... I think...
No just kidding, it really makes you aware of your body and muscles you normally dont use.
Then we had some modern/contemporary technique after that.
And Sara doesnt mess around, she pushes us to the limit, literally.
Also in a good way though!
Even though its tough and sometimes really hard I know we will benefit from this.
After lunch we had Michel from Denmark for the first time in the education.
Michel was just announced as the representative from Denmark for next years Summer Drop, if you dont know him you should definitely check him out!
MICHEL SIAN
He taught this up beat choreo with a lot of focus on footwork.
As we started he taught us really fast and really pushed us physically and mentally as well with the amount of 8 counts he showed.
I was sure this was one of Lins schemes to push us with picking up choreo.
I even shared a look with her where she seemed extra devious.
Turns out I was wrong though, Michel just decided to push us since we are a part of this education.
And Im glad he did :-)
We learned the whole thing in around 30 min I think and just went full out over and over.
We were all gasping for air and soaked in sweat, think my t-shirt was the worst since it changed color entirely during the class.
Thats all from me for this time!
Ses!
