DAY 82 – January 14th 2014 (by Anton Swerkström)
Its nice to be back doing some blogging again after our vacation.
I know pretty much everyone said like happy new years and that they are glad to be back but this is MY first entry of this year and Im excited, so you will just have to deal with it :P
Continuing on from yesterday this was our second day with Brice Johnson aka Professor Lock.
He is here this week to teach us some old school, locking and help us out with our freestyle.
First class of the day was locking and we built on from what we did yesterday.
Its pretty intense, we have a lot of basic moves thrown at us and then drilling over and over, and before you know it we are doing the same thing but across the floor or facing each other.
The Professor is really pushing us physically and mentally as well.
A lot of fun still though, all the exercises opens up room for expression and experimenting, so even though Brice is strict and a really good teacher there is a lot of laughter too :)
Second class we did freestyle again and built on from yesterday here as well.
Im not quite sure what I was expecting from the freestyle classes but almost something like right away forming a cypher and then we would get pushed in while being told “Now freestyle!”.
But we are doing a completely different approach.
By getting to know our own bodies better and with different creative/experimental exercises Brice is really making us reflect and analyze our movements.
It is really cool and it will be interesting to see what will happen by the end of the week.
Brice has really inspired me so far and I can easily relate to the things he says.
Just the fact that he started out dancing really late and before that he was playing football and didnt have much body conscience (just like me).
Seeing where he is today and how hard work pays off makes me want to step up my game and train even harder.
So Im sorry but now I dont have time to write anymore because I gotta drill some locking basics.
