DAY 147 - April 29th 2014 (By Kallum Khaos)

DAY 147 - April 29th 2014 (By Kallum Khaos)

Since we had the opportunity to train with GRV for like 9 hours on Sunday we were given a day off today.
Most people have still used it to take classes but since I took classes everyday this week I thought I would take the day off, do some shopping, catch up on some work, read and relax a little bit   :-)

I had every intention of not taking classes, just yesterday Jillian was telling us it's important to take a day off....but then I couldn't stay away :-)

There's just so many good classes to take it's hard to refuse.
I decided to head to Debbie´s in the afternoon to take Jian's House/Grooves class and it was amazing, his variations of basic steps are soooo good and he's so relaxed that I feel so at ease taking his class.

After, I got a message from Elina saying the schedule at mL had changed and that Vinh Nguyen would be covering...How could I not?
I headed from Debbie's to mL and took his class with 5 of the 1YEPpers, he's such a great teacher and his choreo was sick.
It's just been a week of classes and yet I feel like we're growing so much!
5 weeks to go, bring it on :-)

P.S.

Shout out to Denice who got picked to dance next to her idol Amanda Grind in Vinh's class. She did great ^_^

Day 146 - April 28th 2014 (By Denice M Solberg)

Day 146 - April 28th 2014 (By Denice M Solberg)

Hey what's up blog!!!
We have been in LA for 5 days now and so far it's nothing but amazing!

I love it so much here!
Since it's my third time being here it's super fun to see my friends over here aswell!

So today I started my day of with some work-out, sunbathing, diary-writing and a swim in the pool! Super nice start to what was going to be a full-out day for me.

The rest of the group except me and Anton went to Venice beach with the camera crew and we stayed in North Hollywood to take classes.
My plan today was to take ALL the classes at Movement Lifestyle because the line-up was sick and I couldn't let myself miss them.
I am superproud of myself cause I actually pulled through.
I took Isaac Tualaulelei, Mykell Wilson, Gigi Torres, Jack Mackenzie and Ade Willis.
All classes are 90 minutes.
So  in total I danced for 7,5 hours straight.
They were all amazing!!
My favorite class so far this time in LA was with Jack Mackenzie.
He is an amazing dancer , teacher and choreographer and he seems super sweet and humble as well!

The rest of 1YEP came back for his class and most of us agree that this was one of the favorites! Teacher, choreography and class.

The classes here are sooo variated and I love it!!!

And it's really nice to just be here and be able to learn from all the amazing dancers around me!
I appreciate every aspect of this trip and I am learning so much next to having fun!!

Tomorrow we have our day off and what that means for me is more classes !

Yay!
Sun, dance and people make me happy!
And our pool!
Talk to you later blog  :)))

Day 145 – April 27th 2014 (by Anton Swerkström)

Day 145 – April 27th 2014 (by Anton Swerkström)

Hey blogreaders!

Im so happy that I got this day in particular because today is not just any day, today is GRV day!

It was announced to us a while ago that that we would spend a whole day watching AND attending GRVs rehearsals.
So at around 1.45 pm today we met up to make the drive to Walnut where GRV train.

We started the day with the Gravy Babies, which is GRVs junior team, watching and attending their rehearsals as well.
It was crazy inspiring to see these kids being so focused and committed.
They are between 11 and 18 years old which just makes it even more impressive when you could see them work as one unit.

Check this set, from when they won Body Rock Juniors last year:

We learned one of their new choreography’s with them.
The choreographer Jessie continuously said it was a super easy routine (dont know if I agree...) and that they therefore should focus more on character and performing with emotion.
Was so cool seeing them go off by the end of it.
Those of us in the education who learned it got called out alone which was really nerve wrecking after watching the kids kill it.
But they were super supportive and really nice to us all through the rehearsal.

After a short break we went into training with the senior team.
Both in the Gravy Babies and with GRV they started their practice of with a little sit down.
David the main director talked for a little bit and then we got to introduce ourselves and we had a little Q&A too.
It was both ways so they asked us a lot of questions and we asked them many as well.
Was nice to get to know them a little and also cool that they were interested in us and what we are doing.

When we then started dancing we got to experience this insane energy within the class that was just sick.
I mean if you have seen them on youtube you can see how much power and control they have but to be there in the middle of it as they were practicing was sooo cool. We first learned a more “chill” piece from one of their choreographers Mark.
The choreo had a really feel good vibe to it and you couldnt help but smile as you were dancing it. Once again just watching them by the end of the class was amazing.

The second routine we learned was way different.
Archie the choreographer has a very krump like style and he did such a full out super fast routine.
For me personally I LOVED this!
It was a real challenge but I think all of us did kinda okay (we were once again pulled out to dance by ourselves)
But in this class especially you could just feel the energy of the people around you as you were dancing.

Even though we were at the studio for like 9 hours I didnt feel tired by the end of it.
I was so hyped from just being there and feeding off the crews energy as well.
I must also mention how incredibly humble and nice people they were.
They really opened up their space to us and treated us so great.
Before, during and after class it was just happy faces all around us and people coming up talking to us and complimenting us.
This experience was just beyond words.
So freakin cool that we got to do this and its something I wont ever forget.
For me especially who had GRV as one of my biggest inspirations when I started out taking choreography classes.

I guess Ill just finish off with saying thank you to everyone who made this day possible.
Lin and Karsten our awesome directors, David Lim the main director of GRV and of course every single person who was at the rehearsal today because it was them who was the reason for everything being what it was.

If you dont really know GRV, I encourage you to look them up and I promise they will blow your mind. Check this video link with one of their choreographers and group members BAM MARTIN in this video alongside some of the GRV dancers...

BAM MARTIN - GRV

That´s it for me and I guess Ill return to my everyday life here in LA now :-)

Tomorrow I think we have three classes at Movement Lifestyle.
Life is pretty good now.

DAY 144 - April 25th 2014 (By Elina Ayako)

DAY 144 - April 25th 2014 (By Elina Ayako)

Our first off day in LA..
I just want to dance my bottom off to be honest but I know it's probably for the better to rest for a day & let my body recover from all the craziness that's been happening over the last couple of days.

So today, Anton, Cecilia, Denice, Elin, Mantas & me went to explore the tourist-y side of LA.
Our first stop was the City Walk at Universal Studio.
It seemed so unreal how everything is so huge, flashy, colourful & generally just 'in-your-face' (but in a good way of course!)
After a brief stop at Starbucks we went straight to Hollywood Boulevard, West Hollywood to just stroll around & soak in all the impressions the city has to offer.
I was so impressed by the vivid vibe on the streets, everybody is on the go.
Then the big mistake happened: we found an American Apparel store.
While the others checked out other shops, Denice & me spent the next 2 hours in just that store.

Meanwhile, Marilena & Kallum were at Debbies to take some dance classes - they were especially blown away by the grooves class.

Later that afternoon we headed back home to attend the #kickback event that ML is hosting to get to know some new people & have a chance to chit chat together.
They put out a lovely bar with healthy water/fruit drinks, some delicious tasting fruit & veggie shots & just a lot of good energy!
We were all sitting around the pool for a while, enjoying the sun & talking about life.

In the evening, Denice & I met up with two friends of Denice who live here in LA.
They picked us up & we then all drove to the grove to look around for some stores & then go to eat something nice for dinner (seeing the burgers i definitely regret ordering a salad haha!)

All in all it was a super successful day of exploring LA, getting to know new people & enjoying life. See you next time around!

DAY 143 - April 25th 2014 (By Mantas Rimeikis)

DAY 143 - April 25th 2014 (By Mantas Rimeikis)

Hello Blog!

One of my biggest dreams/goals was to go to LA until age of 25 & here I am 22 years old still

jet lagged laying in my bed at the mlHouse in North Hollywood/Los Angeles!
It is still unbelievable since it has only been 3 days  :-)

It is Friday.

We spend our mornings eating breakfast outside enjoying the weather, yesss finally we are actually able to use the pool (swedish weather is not suited for that haha).

Class Time!

First we went to Debbie's and took class for mister Bosco.
Guess what?
It was only us education students in the class room - private class in LA hahah!

The experience was different since everyone got a little bit more relaxed (yesss it feels super intimidating when there are 50+ amazing dancers in class).
All in all I liked the choreography & Bosco is a great teacher.

You can watch a small clip from the class on Lin´s instagram...username: linthehipdrop.

2nd class at Debbie's - Miguel Antonio
Oh my gosh this person is something special, the way he moves is just captivating!
It looks like the music is coming out of his body (speakers are hidden under his armpits & behind the ears).

The choreography... Wow.....I was having a very hard time picking up and getting it in to my body(that's what she said,ok.I'll stop with the jokes now.)
It is definitely my weak side and I think I will be pushed to work on that.

In between classes we met at the house and had a meeting where we shared our experiences so far. Happy happy.

Last class of the day was Jaycee Cook at Movement Lifestyle

(Jaycee is from New Zealand, he used to be a part of Misfits and Royal Family, I dont know if he still is)This was the class I felt most comfortable in so far, it just fitted me so well!
I think he is an amazing dancer and I can't wait to learn more.

And my team mate Elina was picked in the only group he did, yaaaay....
It was a great end of the day since the 2nd class really crushed me & I just realised again that I should keep on taking one thing at a time and stop overthinking things.

An awesome awesome awesome beginning ! Can't wait to experience more!
See ya!!!

DAY 142 - April 24th 2014 (By Cecilia Tram)

Hello there!

Were should I start?

It is amazing here and it is only the second day. My body are still out of control though because of the jetlag but I'm slowly getting there  :-)

I'm so amazed about everything.

Being around so many talented people.
And today I  got myself a pink bike ha ha....so I can easier get around  :-)  Love it!

The day started with a class with Jian and we did a choreo to J.Lo´s "Play" which was a throwback choreo from around 2003, and it was all about performance.

The class was suppose to suit me but I didn't really enjoyed it but I saw it as a test and just pulled through and it actually went well  :-)
I was the only one who didn't really enjoy it and I can't tell you guys why I didn't like it.
He's such a good dancer but I think it is just the jetlag.
I will blame it on that.
He was so groovy and sharp at the same time.
Wow!

But the class later that night with Cj Salvador was AMAZING.
The time just flew by.
The choreo we did was not super fast, and it was really groovy and smooth, and I loved it.
He's such a good teacher, and he really cares about his students.
And my classmate Elina got picked at the end with 2 amazing girls. Haley Fitzgerald, and one I didnt know. Elina did so good.
This was my first class with him and I'm definity taking more classes with him.
Make sure to go to Summer Drop, cause he is teaching at Summer Drop.

He has become one of my top choreographers and teachers, and I nailed the choreography sometimes and I wish someone saw me but you know what?!
I don't freaking care cause I feelt awsome!!! :-)

Love to you all

DAY 141 - April 23rd 2014 (By Marilena Maouni)

DAY 141 - April 23rd 2014 (By Marilena Maouni)

Gaaaaaah I'm in LA with my lovely 1yep family, staying for six weeks at the Movement Lifestyle House!
I couldn't be happier right now!!

The house is amazing!!!!
It normally fits 18 people but Lin and Karsten wanted to give us the best experience so they rented the whole place just for us....in case you don't know we are only 8!
Check this video out you can see how great and big the house is!

Before we went to the Movement Lifestyle studio and Millennium, we totally took advantage  of the beautiful weather and the pool.
So refreshing to start our day like this :-)

Our classes for the day were going to be with :
Devin Jamieson
Joesar Alva
Kyle Hanagami

But unfortunately one of the not so great things here is that the schedule at the studios change last minute and it's quite often that teachers are not here because they are out of time, are canceling for other reasons, and then someone else is subbing.

All three classes had subs so we took two classes at Movement Lifestyle with Alex Fethbroth and Brandon Dumlao and one at Millennium with our first international 1yep teacher back in Malmo...David Moore!
All classes were amazing! My level of happiness reached the max 💖

Walking into ML was overwhelming as it was my first time there.
Most of the people I look up to are teaching here.
Most of the dance videos I check on YouTube are filmed here!
I swear  my arm hair stood up when I stepped in.
I was sooo nervous I didn't know where and how to stand! Lol
I was staring awkwardly at the stuff and the other dancers, and checking out the clothes they sell while I was waiting for class to start.
Thank God I had my 1Yep´ers there for moral support.

First class with Alex was similar to Lin's "speed classes" where she is teaching a lot of choreography quite fast.
Yeap, first class and our minds were fried already.

Second class with Brandon....I absolutely loved it!

I didn't know Brandon from before, and I liked him soooooo so much.
His movement, musicality, and groove made my jaw drop.
On top of this he's a really really really good teacher that pays attention to the students.
Check him out.
Really....Check him out!!
If you are reading this Brandon you totally get an A plus from me!!! 😊

Aaaand then we went to Millennium to get our unlimited cards and take our third and last class for the day with DAVID MOORE.
There's such a connection with the teachers we have had throughout the education, and David was the first one we took class from here in LA!
The class was amazing and it was so nice to take class for him again as a group, and in an another environment, with so many great dancers surrounding us.

It was such a magical moment when we got selected as a 1Yep group at the end of class.
I could see how much we all have been growing throughout this year.
Sharing Millennium's dance floor with my Yep´ers was a bonding and special moment for all of us!

Today was such a special day and I will never forget it.
Everything was so absolutely amazing from the classes to the house, to Los Angeles ,to Lin and K, to the rest of the 1Yep´ers, to the weather .....Everything!
But most important of all I WILL NEVER FORGET THIS DAY because I got to get a taste of what I had been dreaming since I was a little girl.

Chase your dreams.

Marilena

DAY 140 - April 22nd 2014 (By Elin Karabuda)

So here's my blog
Dear blog people,
Today is a very special day. This is the day our beloved little dance family fly overseas to visit a city far far away that I like to call Los Angeles.
Day in and day out we shall dance. For six whole weeks that is.
As I'm writing this I'm seated on a plane, big enough to fit a small country, that will take us to the U.S and A (Note! Borat joke. Not retard.).
Also! As this wasn't miraculous enough. It is told that, at this very day, 25 year from now, a baby boy was born. They called him Kallum. So if you do the math you'll come to the realization that today is his birthday. Therefore, this journey is a journey of celebration and hope.
Now I'm off to eat some cinnamon buns and dwell away in dreams of LA! I'll come with my final report later today. Don't you worry.

Now Its later today. So hi.
Lin and K picked us up at the airport and took us to THE HOUSE. Two sweet people from the staff gave us a round tour. As the jet lag started to take over, the excitement was unable to shine through our faces. We must have been a fun crowd. Nope. Anyway, the house is amazing!
And I cant wait for everything to start tomorrow...
Let the fun begin!

DAY 139 - April 10th 2014 (By Denice M.Solberg)

DAY 139 - April 10th 2014 (By Denice M.Solberg)

HeyHey!
Today has been a looooong day. I just came home from school, evening classes, rehersals and it's already friday, it's 1:00 am. I am dead and it's only a small taste of how the next three months will be like!

We got this gig that we are doing at the innebandy finals in the Swedish Championship. It's this huuuuuuge event that is going to happen in Malmø. We were asked to perform in the breaks of the games. We heard It is about 8-11 000 people that are gonna be watching, plus it will be shown on tv.
We created the show by putting together 3 choreo's and fixing formations.
Frida and Jasmina from the evening school joined us last minute so today we taught them the choreo they are dancing and made formations and everything. It is really fun to get to do this, but we had some small team issues because of time and stuff. But at the end of the day I'm happy to learn from mistakes or just getting the experience of teamwork, so I am supersatisfied. We will have two small rehersals before it's showtime.
In school time and in evening classes 1yep took over. We worked on Matrix material. Kallum and Anton taught the beginner class, me intermediate and Mantas advanced. The classes were really successful! In my class I was super nervous before stepping in because I didn't feel prepared enough for the type of class I was about to have. AND I never taught sooo many good dancers at the same time. The class was going to be based around Kallum and my choreo for the Matrix show. When class started I was suddenly feeling so calm, excited and ready eventhough I wasn't a hundred percent prepared. It was a very good class for me because I got to test out everything I wanted to see from the students. They were so nice to me, they gave me everything they had, focus, commitment, patience. I was so happy! It was a very different class from what I have eeeever done before and I think the students never had done anything like it either.
I am super ready to work on the piece now and excited to teach them the real choreo and give the vision a life!
It's the laaaast day before we have our vacation and then we are going directly to LA!! It's CRAZY!!!! It's gonna be so much fun!!!! LET'S GO!
Next time we meet will be in California! Until then have a nice vacation and take some time to know why you celebrate easter

DAY 138 - April 9th 2014 (by Anton Swerkström)

DAY 138 - April 9th 2014 (by Anton Swerkström)

Was some tension in the air this morning at the Hip Drop International Education.
Yesterday Kallum went to Stockholm to try and get his visa approved since he was denied an ESTA.
We started warmup like usual but our minds where somewhere else.
But after about an hour we got the news that he had his visa approved which means we are all going to LA!!
Such a freakin relief.
This had kinda been a dark cloud over our heads for the past couple weeks but now with it gone the sun is gonna shine pretty damn bright on us in LA :-)

Today we had our last ballet class before going away.
Our teacher Emelie is really cool and it has been awesome having her here.
She really makes ballet fun for everyone no matter what level you are on and makes us work our asses off in every class.
We will probably have her again when we get back which I must say Im looking forward to.
Ballet is pretty cool if you have the right teacher :-)

Lastly we had a meeting about some things going on right now for us.
Biggest thing was probably that we have a performance on Saturday at the Swedish championship finals in floorball.
Sweden is actually really good at this and the finals pull quite a lot of people so it will be fun.
Even though we only have three days to put together a show and rehearse everyone is actually very much at ease.
Then if that will be the case during the whole process is a different question.
We will probably all be freaking out Friday evening.

Cool stuff coming up, and just one last school day before vacation and then our trip. I am really excited but also happy we will have a break before going so that I can collect my thoughts.
Hopefully Im ready for whats about to come.

Anton Swerkström

DAY 137 - April 8th 2014 (By Elina Ayako)

Ahhhhh today is my last school day.

Ahhhhh. I'll repeat myself. Ahhhhh!
The Feelings are so Mixed:
Super excited about the craziness of Canada & LA starting tomorrow (I'm flying over to Montreal with Lin for the 'Rock Da House' convention to dance with CJ SALVADOR - KYLE HANAGAMI - DAVID MOORE - ANDYE JAMIESON - STEPHANE CHARBANNOU - LORENA LIEBERMAN) a little sad about only having 3 weeks left in Sweden before the education is over, & deeeefinitely nervous about the Hardcore classes i will be taking soon. Ahhhhh.

But first, let's talk about today.

We spent our morning working out, doing our regular warm up routine to then spend 90 minutes on choreographing for the Matrix show.
Mantas taught me and a couple of others his routine that he's intending to use for Matrix.
Dang, this is probably my favourite piece of him so far, i can't wait to see it on a big stage!

We then had an afternoon packed with Meetings.

First we evaluated on Joel, the Tap teacher we recently had.
We had some more time to also talk about the lovely Ballett teacher Emelie.
It's always interesting to hear how people experienced a teacher/class/dancestyle differently.
I love having these evaluations & i think they are very important.
We spend the last hour of the day just daydreaming about LA, exchanging our biggest joys & fears considering the Trip.
Talking about it makes me realize that all this is happening freaking soon.
I can't wait to share our Adventures with you guys on the Blog!!

DAY 136 - April 7th 2014  (By Mantas Rimeikis)

LA is coming!
Only 2 weeks and one day left until we leave!!!!!
Agh I feel super excited and nervous!

Today we had an LA meeting, and that’s when I’ve realized how soon we are leaving.
It’s going to be amazing.
Can’t wait to meet new people and dance my ass off out there.
This is the first time I am visiting States so I have no idea how everything is over there lol.

MATRIX is becoming alive since everyone is working hard on their pieces, can’t wait to see how it will turn out.

I see big growth in every single one of us especially now when we get to use the knowledge we got throughout this year.

bye blog

DAY 135 - April 4th 2014  2014 (By Cecilia Tram)

Hello world!

Cecilia here writing about our friday at the Education.
As you all know we had ballet and tap so my knees are kill kill killing me. I loved the ballet but really, really didn't like the tap. I have been taking one tapclass before, and off course the class with Jillian, but I still don't like it, and I know it have something to do with me feeling like I am a big elephant doing it.
hate it so much that I know that I will buy tapshoes and try to learn the basics just to have them because it would be a good thing for me to learn.....hm....why do I do this to myself. Mohahaha xD

Today we only had 3 hours at school. We did good yoga as a warm up lead by Marilena, I love Marilenas yoga. My body needed that and the last 2 hours we worked on the Matrix show.

I miss the week with Huyen. The weeks after that amazing week has been weird for me. My musicality is just off, and I cant hear any music  :-/
I am having a hard time getting choreo into my body. I feel like I am not able to create either. So I'm starting to get very angry and frustrated.
Ahhh what happened? Why are my body doing this? It has been a couple of of weeks with me feeling like this now, and I'm scared that I have to start all over again, and that is making me sad.
I have worked hard as hell to get and feel what I felt during the week with Huyen, and the weeks before. I feel like everything just flew away.
I don't want to end my blogpost like this, sad so....
Omg! Only one week left of school and only 2 weeks before L.A.! :-))))
'm so excited and so nervous. Jippi!

Love to you all  <3

DAY 134 - April 3rd 2014 (By Marilena Maouni)

Crazy crazy day today super duper busy , we don't even have a lunch break!
(we still had our mini breaks though , don't you worry)
First class was ballet and then we had two classes of tapping.

Usually the ballet teachers are so strict that it feels that you are joining the military… our ballet teacher is so awesome! She has a magic way of being discipline and funny, educational and inspiring. I didn't even realized how time went by so fast and class was over!

Tapping for three hours after ballet….my feet hate me! I didn't had the right shoes for tapping and it made the experience a little bit less fun for me but still it was cool to try something new!
In the last class each of us choreographed an 8count and put everything together …! It was so interesting and fun to see the choices everyone made with steps and musicality , especially since we know each other so well!

Legs vs Marilena 1-0

DAY 134 - April 3rd 2014 (By Kallum Khaos)

Hello ya'll

Today we started the day with a meeting about the Matrix and set up the group for the participants, as well as the Facebook event for the performance :-)

Check it out right now and click attending, it's going to be soooooo good!!

https://www.facebook.com/events/224404524423261/?fref=ts

Afterwards we had Ballet. I love seeing Anton's girly feet in Ballet shoes, it brightens up my day.
He totally bosses Ballet though, I try my best to keep up and not fall over.
Over the course of the past week I think I see improvement though :-)

It's such an important style to have at least the basics, because it can add so much strength and variety to my dancing.
After came the Tap classes, another style totally alien to my feet, but one I would really like to get into more.
I love the rhythms and the scope to create your own sounds.

In the evening I took Anton's Beginner Hip Hop class, did some extra work on the event and the group, then took Lin's Advanced Hip Hop class, such a nice routine and good way to end the day.

It's even up online (Protip: pause at 22secs – Thought I would Ballet up the routine haha).

Until next time blog readers.

DAY 133 - April 2nd 2014 (By Elin Karabuda)

DAY 133 - April 2nd 2014 (By Elin Karabuda)

Today a hiphop legend came to visit us.
Mr. Wiggles himself!
This guy knows A LOT, people.
That, combined with a coolness overload, made him super duper intimidating stepping into the studio.

First on the agenda with him was a popping class. This was for sure the best popping class I could’ve imagined. One thing that opened my eyes and blew my mind was that popping actually is a very groovy style. He started with only teaching us the basic grooves and steps. We drilled it until it started to get into our bodies. Wow. This made me understand the style so much more. Later, when we added pops to the grooves, everything started makes sense. Everything.

Then he made us battle! We faced each other, two and two, and got ready for war. At first I was a little scared. Then I fixed it. I imagined I was really good at popping. Then I was.

Afterwards we had a Hiphop Theory class, followed up with a Q&A. He told us about how hiphop started, how it evolved, what dance styles it contains. He also gave us tips on how to improve ourselves and what we can do to help the hiphop community. One of his tips was:
First learn all the rules, then break all the rules. BOOM!
