It was announced to us a while ago that that we would spend a whole day watching AND attending GRVs rehearsals.
So at around 1.45 pm today we met up to make the drive to Walnut where GRV train.
We started the day with the Gravy Babies, which is GRVs junior team, watching and attending their rehearsals as well.
It was crazy inspiring to see these kids being so focused and committed.
They are between 11 and 18 years old which just makes it even more impressive when you could see them work as one unit.
Check this set, from when they won Body Rock Juniors last year:
We learned one of their new choreography’s with them.
The choreographer Jessie continuously said it was a super easy routine (dont know if I agree...) and that they therefore should focus more on character and performing with emotion.
Was so cool seeing them go off by the end of it.
Those of us in the education who learned it got called out alone which was really nerve wrecking after watching the kids kill it.
But they were super supportive and really nice to us all through the rehearsal.
After a short break we went into training with the senior team.
Both in the Gravy Babies and with GRV they started their practice of with a little sit down.
David the main director talked for a little bit and then we got to introduce ourselves and we had a little Q&A too.
It was both ways so they asked us a lot of questions and we asked them many as well.
Was nice to get to know them a little and also cool that they were interested in us and what we are doing.
When we then started dancing we got to experience this insane energy within the class that was just sick.
I mean if you have seen them on youtube you can see how much power and control they have but to be there in the middle of it as they were practicing was sooo cool. We first learned a more “chill” piece from one of their choreographers Mark.
The choreo had a really feel good vibe to it and you couldnt help but smile as you were dancing it. Once again just watching them by the end of the class was amazing.
The second routine we learned was way different.
Archie the choreographer has a very krump like style and he did such a full out super fast routine.
For me personally I LOVED this!
It was a real challenge but I think all of us did kinda okay (we were once again pulled out to dance by ourselves)
But in this class especially you could just feel the energy of the people around you as you were dancing.
Even though we were at the studio for like 9 hours I didnt feel tired by the end of it.
I was so hyped from just being there and feeding off the crews energy as well.
I must also mention how incredibly humble and nice people they were.
They really opened up their space to us and treated us so great.
Before, during and after class it was just happy faces all around us and people coming up talking to us and complimenting us.
This experience was just beyond words.
So freakin cool that we got to do this and its something I wont ever forget.
For me especially who had GRV as one of my biggest inspirations when I started out taking choreography classes.
I guess Ill just finish off with saying thank you to everyone who made this day possible.
Lin and Karsten our awesome directors, David Lim the main director of GRV and of course every single person who was at the rehearsal today because it was them who was the reason for everything being what it was.
If you dont really know GRV, I encourage you to look them up and I promise they will blow your mind. Check this video link with one of their choreographers and group members BAM MARTIN in this video alongside some of the GRV dancers...

That´s it for me and I guess Ill return to my everyday life here in LA now :-)
Tomorrow I think we have three classes at Movement Lifestyle.
Life is pretty good now.
