First off I would like to thank you for reading this blog and getting to know all the talented dancers we have this year in 2YEP. I never thought I would be here writing a blog entry for the world to read – but hey, it happened! My name is Simonne Kraigher, I am 23 years old and I am from Vancouver, Canada. CA-NA-DA WHAT!
So, I have been dancing majority of my life, as I started dancing at age 3 with ballet. I continued to dance through my young years but really became competitive at age 10. Once in high school, I took part in the dance program, moving up rather quickly. I received numerous awards/scholarships and became coach/choreographer of both junior and senior dance teams. In addition to high school, I stepped up my passion for Hip Hop by moving to an urban dance studio where I became a company member. Over the years there I trained in ballet, pointe, jazz, contemporary, commercial styles, Argentina tango and burlesque. I have been able to take workshops from many talented choreographers/teachers and I have also been able to travel to take classes in cities such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Paris and Barcelona. In 2012 I attended one of the biggest Hip Hop workshops in the world - Urban Dance Camp, held in Lorrach, Germany.
After high school graduation, I moved to Whitehorse, Yukon (by Alaska) to seek employment for the summer months. After substituting a couple of classes at Leaping Feats Creative Danceworks, I became a full time faculty member of the studio. While with the studio, I created and directed Whitehorse’s first non-profit, all girls hip-hop group, Northern Impact Dance Ensemble. After teaching kids and adults of all ages for 4 years, I decided it was time to take time for myself, and I applied for this program. Once I was accepted, I knew that I had to do this. I am ready to focus on only dancing, as I have never been able to do that. I am ready to push myself to the limits and knock down some of my insecurities. I am also very eager to watch all the wonderful people around me grow into amazing dancers and humans. So continue to follow our journey and getting to know all the crazy, wild and wonderful dancers that 2YEP has!
Thanks for reading,
xo Simonne Kraigher
