DENICE SOLBERG
Waddup blog!! Before you enter my
little world of thoughts I think it would be nice to get to know me a little
bit first.
Name, Age, Country:
Name, Age, Country:
My full name is Denice Miriam Solberg and
I’m from a very small town in Norway, called Brumunddal. Yeah, try to pronounce
that! Im Candaian, Norwegian and Danish. Very soon turning 20. I’ve grown up in
a Christian family and I’ve gotten a very personal relationship to God, which
means everything to me.
My parents have always been a 100 % supportive of my
dreams. I’ve been dancing my whole life, mostly with my sister in my bedroom.
She has taught me everything. I remember standing close to her, she forcing my
body to take a body roll. Haha. That is basically how I learned how to dance.
So I wanna thank her for making me love dance.
Dance Background:
My parents put me in a ballet class when I was 5, but after some years with
that, I stopped. I Still kept on dancing at home, a few classes here and there.
But my parents didn’t want my life to be influenced by bad music, so hip hop
classes was never really an option until I turned 13. I took one semester here
and there where I danced one hour per week. Learning one 8-count per week
wasn’t very much, but it still taught me how to work hard, dance choreography,
etc. Somehow I ended up applying for a dance major in high school to learn
ballet, jazz and contemporary. I had a pretty rough time in High school, but it
made me work really hard to become the best I could be. My focus was extremely
high and I accomplished all the goals I set for my self while I was there. I
have never regretted anything even though my life had a lot of ups and downs. I
started working as a dance teacher at different dance schools, which helped me
teach myself aswell.
It has been 4 years since I decided that I wanted to pursue a life as a dancer. I met a girl in high school that was just as passionate as me when it came to urban dance styles, so we pushed each other a lot during the small breaks we had. We were allways training for different shows, traveling around Europe and dancing. I loved it so much, so it made me feel like my talent and love for dance got kind of useless where I lived. There was so much more out there that could fulfill and satisfy my dancer heart. I traveled a little bit to Oslo, the capital city of Norway, to dance, but the money and effort of getting there was too much in the end.

How did you hear about the program and what made you decide to apply:
After graduating High School I worked so that I could travel to LA. I wanted to
experience if the LA dream was something for me. I was there in a total of 4
months and it was amazing! The people, the dancing, the place, I loved it! But still I felt like something was missing! Right before I went
to LA in March, I saw The HipDrop, Lin
Samuelsen, posting on FaceBook about this 1 year education. At first my thoughts
were ”this is too good to be true!” and my second thought was ”Do I wanna be
stuck at one place for a whole year?” . But somehow I applied anyways, just
in case I got accepted and it would be the right thing for me to do. Obviously I
ended up being accepted. I was a lot back and forth before I ended up saying
yes. What made me finally take the decission was different things: being a part
of a group where you push each other to work hard, growing together, inspiring
each other, team work, collaboration, discipline, get personal guidance, just being
a student, dance different styles, learning basics. And a lot of other things.
I figured I couldnt get this any other places. As you may understand I had very
high expectations to this education.
I couldn’t be more happy about being here. I love this so much it’s crazy! I have never been so happy and satisfied with my life before. I want to thank Lin and Karsten for making this possible and for dreaming so big! My heart is almost exploding of happiness everyday, I hope it stays like this. Growing and learning alongside, from and with these 7 other people I have the priviledge of living with everyday is more than I could ever expect! This education is so far is the best decission of my life, and all my expectations are met and more than that!!

Dreams and goals with dance:
I have some dreams with my
dancing, but with purpose I have decided to not define them clearly so that I
still can be open for whatever happens and be happy with whatever happens.
Short term dream would be to be sharing
a stage with a well respected artist and experience the feeling of a
thousands people watching and cheering. Long
term dream, I wanna be able to choreograph big and meaningful pieces which can
make a difference in peoples lives. Having a name out in the world and the
dance communities which is respected, is a dream and a goal, so that I can
inspire and work with the best. On top of this I wanna use my dance to show
people my love for Jesus and inspire others.
