Day 18 - September 25th 2013 (By Anton Swerkström)
Second day with Martin Svaneborg from Denmark.
And third day of jazz training.
Do I dare to say Im kinda getting the hang of this?
Although thats kinda with a capital ”K”.
At least I´m getting INTO it :)
Day started similar to yesterday with technical jazz training.
Martin is amazing at explaining moves and not only that but he knows the history of the move, which muscles to use, common mistakes one easily makes and with every question its like you get this bonus advice as well.
It takes a lot of time but its because he has so many things to say and I feel like I can use everything he says to improve my dancing.
We did a little bit more advanced stuff today (at least what I would call advanced, smoke coming out of my ears during class) which was cool that he preassures us to see how much we can manage.
After lunch he had a lecture about the mentallity and disciplin one should have as a dancer.
Not because we had dissapointed him in these areas :-) but just because he thought it was something every dancer should hear.
So many good things were said during these 45 min, (will be looking at those notes before every time I go to an audition) some things that I kinda already knew but when they were pointed out I was like ”oh man, thats so true”.
I cant tell you everything he said here but I'll give you a tip of the day.
Whenever you are taking a class don't just go in there to TAKE a class. Be prepared to GIVE the teacher all you can offer, that goes for being in time, energy wise and focus wise.
Then the class will become so much greater for everyone involved.
”When the student is ready, a master shall appear”
He told us about a dance teacher he had, someone he looked up to very much, his words exactly were ”I just got him”.
Thats actually how I feel about Martin right now.
Very inspiring and I´m learning A LOT.
Glad we have another week with him, and maybe even more later during the education as well.
His second class we did choreo again. I dont know what it is but I feel kinda cool doing this theater stuff, I´m sure my classmates are laughing at me right now because I probably dont look as good as I feel :-)
Actually you can be the judge of that, check out the short videos we have up on instagram :-)
Martin Svaneborg & Jenny Major
from "Sceneindgangen" in Denmark.
Last thing we did was working on our class assignment from last week.
Im not sure if this is supposed to be a surprise but I´ll play it safe and not spoil anything :-)
Keep an eye out sometime after this friday ;-)
PS: Shoutout to Marilena for having a dope class at The Hip Drop tonight!
I´m up next week but will be hard to top this one :-o
Man this was a lot of text... Oh well, thanks if you actually read it all :-) Until next time!
